How much does it cost to rank your business on Google Maps?

Almost everything you'll find on this topic is priced in euros or ends in "book a call". Here are the prices that are actually published, converted to pesos, piece by piece, and what I charge.

The short answer

Showing up on Google Maps is free: Google doesn't charge for a Business Profile. What you pay for is the work of setting it up properly and keeping it alive. I reviewed what the people who sell this service publish, and this is what it costs today, in Mexican pesos:

OptionWhat it costsWhat you get
Doing it yourselfMXN 0 and about 4 to 6 hours the first time, plus 1 or 2 hours a monthThe profile, verified and complete, if you follow the steps carefully
One-off setup or optimisation (freelancer or agency)≈ MXN 3,500 to 3,900, one-offSetup, categories, hours and description. Almost never includes professional photos or ads
Full package≈ MXN 9,700 to 10,100 if you buy the pieces separatelySetup, a photo shoot, a review stand and a month of ads
Monthly management or local SEO agency≈ MXN 1,000 a month for the profile only; MXN 3,500 to 12,000 a month for a local SEO retainerPosts, review replies and reports; retainers also cover your website's SEO and content

Three warnings before you use these numbers. First, almost no Mexican provider publishes a price; most ask you to book a call. That's why part of the sample comes from Spain, where prices are published, converted at 19.80 pesos per euro. Second, whoever publishes tends to be cheaper than whoever doesn't, so the real market sits a little higher. Third, formal agencies quote "plus VAT": add 16 % if you need an invoice.

If you already know you'd rather have someone do it, this is my Google Maps positioning service in Guadalajara. If you don't know yet why you're not showing up, start with the 9 reasons a business doesn't show up on Google Maps: sometimes the fix takes ten minutes and you don't need to pay anyone.

What you're paying for, piece by piece

A "Google Maps package" is usually four different things added together. It helps to know what each one is worth, so you can compare two quotes that don't look alike at first glance.

1. Setting up and optimising the profile

Creating or recovering the profile, choosing the primary and secondary categories, filling in services, hours and description, and getting through verification. Among those who publish a price, the median is around MXN 3,700 one-off. An agency in Mérida, for example, charges MXN 3,500 for the initial optimisation. Marketplaces like Fiverr have offers for MXN 450, but nobody there knows your neighbourhood or will walk you through the video verification.

2. The photos

This is the most expensive piece and the one people notice most. A professional shoot for a business in Guadalajara runs between MXN 3,500 and 7,000 plus VAT, depending on how many photos you get (15 to 50). By the hour, photographers in the city charge MXN 600 to 1,000. You can start with well-lit phone photos; what you shouldn't do is leave the profile with two blurry images.

3. The review stand or card

A card with an NFC chip and a QR code, which customers tap with their phone to leave a review, costs MXN 320 to 400 apiece in Mexico. An acrylic counter stand is around MXN 700. Watch out for ones that send people to the seller's own "digital profile" instead of straight to Google: those charge a yearly renewal, and if you stop paying, the stand stops working.

4. The ads

There are two numbers here, and you should ask for them separately. One is the budget, what you pay Google for clicks. The other is management: setting up the campaign, choosing the area and making sure the money isn't wasted. For a local business, a reasonable Google spend is MXN 1,500 to 4,000 a month, with clicks at MXN 4 to 15 in most trades (more for lawyers and healthcare). When someone gives you a single number for "advertising", ask how much of it actually reaches Google.

One-off or monthly?

It depends on how active the profile needs to be. A one-off job leaves everything set up properly, and plenty of businesses with a good location and customers who already leave reviews don't need more. A monthly fee makes sense when you compete with several businesses in the same trade and area: there, recent reviews, fresh photos and posts matter, and someone has to do that every month. Among those who publish it, profile-only management costs about MXN 1,000 a month; local SEO retainers, which also work on your website, run from MXN 3,500 to 12,000.

What doesn't make sense is paying an expensive monthly fee for a profile nobody touches. Ask for the monthly report: how many times you were seen, how many calls and how many direction requests. If they can't give it to you, they're not managing anything.

The traps that make everything more expensive

The profile in the agency's name

If the agency creates the profile with its own email, the profile is theirs. The day you stop paying, you can lose access to your own reviews. Ask to be the primary owner, with the agency only as a manager.

Lock-in contracts

Some retainers require a mandatory year. If the work is good, they don't need to tie you in. Prefer month to month, or at least a way out after three months.

"Guaranteed first place"

Nobody can guarantee it. The distance between the searcher and your business weighs more than any optimisation, and no one can move that. Whoever promises first place across all of Guadalajara is selling smoke, or ads in disguise.

Bought reviews

Google detects and deletes them, and can suspend the whole profile. What does work is asking every happy customer for a review, with a direct link or a stand on the counter.

What I charge, so you can compare

These are my prices, plus VAT. Prices updated: September 2026.

  • One-off package: MXN 11,900. Profile setup or recovery and verification; primary and secondary categories, services, hours and description; a professional photo shoot at your premises; an NFC and QR counter stand that goes straight to your Google reviews, with no renewals; and one month of local ads with MXN 2,000 of ad budget included, which goes straight to Google, with a report at the end.
  • Optional monthly management: MXN 1,490 a month. Posts, review replies, up-to-date photos and hours, and a report with views, calls and directions. No lock-in.
  • From the second month on, the ad budget, if you decide to keep going, is paid straight to Google with your own card: for a local business, MXN 1,500 to 4,000 a month.

The profile stays in your name and under your email, always. Buying those same pieces separately, plus that MXN 2,000 of ads, comes to about MXN 11,700 to 12,100.

When you should NOT hire me

If your business has premises that are easy to find, few competitors nearby and you have a free afternoon, do it yourself. I left the steps in the guide on how to get on Google Maps in Guadalajara, and you don't need to pay anything. Don't hire me either if what you want is to rank first across the whole city: that doesn't exist, and I won't sell it to you.

When you should

When you already tried and verification got stuck, when the profile exists but nobody on your team has access, when you need photos that make people want to walk in and have no one to take them, or when you compete in an area full of businesses in your trade, like Chapultepec, Providencia or central Zapopan, and a half-finished profile is no longer enough.

Frequently asked questions

Does Google charge to appear on Maps?

No. The Business Profile is free and so is appearing on the map. The only thing Google charges for is ads, and they're optional.

Are ads mandatory?

No. A well-built profile shows up without ads when someone searches near you. Ads help speed up the first month, or get you seen in areas where, because of distance, you wouldn't appear organically.

How long until I see results?

Verification takes anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks. Once verified, the profile usually starts appearing in nearby searches within a few days; reviews and photos add up month after month.

Should I pay monthly or just once?

Start with the one-off package and measure for three months. If calls and direction requests grow on their own, you don't need more. If your competitors post and reply to reviews every week, then the monthly fee is worth it.
